This was my final graduation project which I carried out at TNO Automotive at Helmond, Netherlands. ABSTRACT: This thesis studies the channel propagation characteristics of 60 GHz communication band to use as a secondary redundant link for Truck Platooning. Truck Platooning uses ITS-G5 as the main communication link. Extensive measurements are taken in indoor and outdoor environments to analyze the channel characteristics for various channel configurations. Channel parameters retrieved from measurements are presented and the performance of the communication channel is evaluated. Line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) scenarios on the lines of vehicular communication are considered. It is observed that multipath doesn’t affect the communication much in the environment where there are metallic objects. This project deals with the investigation of thermal expansion in the bonding of IMOS (Indium Phosphide Membrane on Silicon) on top of SOI (Silicon on Insulator) Wafer. It has been reported that the wafer undergoes stretching during the bonding process. The work done in this research is to identify the causes of stretching, we believe that the stretching that occurs is due to the BCB coating that helps in bonding the two layers. The experiment is conducted with various parameters to investigate whether the stretching is actually caused because of the BCB stress.

One of the key parameters to be considered in any communication is the latency (delay) associated with it. 60 GHz has been in the limelight for quite some time considering it provides wireless communication at Gigabit per second. IEEE 802.11ad has been developed extensively for the standardization of this 60 GHz band. This paper is an investigation of the latency associated with the IEEE 802.11ad standard. It specifically deals with polling based TDMA MAC protocols and the CSMA/CA algorithm that this standard uses in MAC and also the coding scheme used by this standard.   Download the full report here :
